If you're planning a wellness retreat in Baja California Sur, here's what a few days with us actually looks like. We're a small cottage retreat on the East Cape of Los Cabos, on Camino Cabo Este, where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. Desert meets sea. We don't run a set retreat programme. You pick the practices you want, we book them, and the rest of the day is yours.
Below is what's on offer, what it costs, and how we'd put it together.
The temazcal
We have a temazcal on the property, a traditional Mesoamerican steam lodge. A facilitator leads the ceremony, it lasts 1.5 hours, and it includes an herbal infusion. It's $11,500 MXN, whether you come alone or bring a group.
Before you go in, the facilitator cleanses you with copal smoke. Then it's heat, herbs and breath in the dark. Bring a swimsuit, a towel and water. Most people want nothing afterwards but the pool and an early night, so we'd put it on the evening of your second day, once the travel has worn off.
Sound healing on the deck
We run sound healing daily on the deck in front of the temazcal, in several formats. Each session lasts 60-90 minutes.
| Session | What it is | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Sound healing on yoga mats | Tibetan bowls, bells and gongs, lying on a mat | $3,575 MXN |
| Yoga with sound healing | A yoga class with sound woven through it | $3,900 MXN |
| Sound healing in hammocks | Gentle movement and sound, suspended | $4,485 MXN |
| Reiki with sound healing | Reiki from a practitioner alongside sound | $4,485 MXN |
| Tai chi qi gong with sound healing | Slow movement, breath and sound | $4,576 MXN |
| Floating sound bath | Floating in water while the bowls play | $6,240 MXN |
| Aquatic sound therapy | A water session with sound and vibration | $6,240 MXN |
Prices are from one guest. Book these 48 hours ahead. If you've never tried one, start with the mat session. It's the simplest way in. The floating sessions need a swimsuit and a towel.
Yoga and chi kung
Sunset beach yoga is the easy one to fit in: it runs daily except Wednesdays, at 8am or 5pm, and costs $1,870 MXN. It's gentle movement and breath, beginner to intermediate, by the beach or at the kiosk, and the 5pm class is the one to take for the light.
Vinyasa yoga and chi kung run Tuesday to Thursday. Each class is an hour and suits all levels. It's $3,500 MXN per person for 3-5 guests, or a $4,000 MXN flat rate for a private class of 1-2. Vinyasa is held at the kiosk or by the beach. Chi kung is on the yoga deck, an open-air deck above the sea. Mats, blocks and an English-speaking guide are included, and we ask for 24 hours' notice.
We don't have a gym. The movement here happens outside.
ZENICA Ancestral Spa
Our spa works with ancestral practices alongside familiar massage. The treatments include:
- Mayan Healing Ritual: ancestral massage with sacred herbs, copal and sound.
- Herbal Compress Ritual: warm botanical compresses for tension and inflammation.
- Lava Stone Ritual: alternating warm and cool basalt stones.
- Sacred Balance Ritual: energy work, aromatherapy and reflexology over the whole body.
- Massages: flow, deep tissue, aromatherapy and hot stones.
Treatments happen in the spa, on the yoga deck or in your room. A Spa Day combining facials and massage can be booked any day with 24 hours' notice.
Cacao ceremony
We also hold a guided cacao ritual. It runs 60-90 minutes, costs $4,400 MXN for 1-4 guests, and the ceremonial cacao and facilitator are included. It's a quiet one, built around reflection and intention, and it works well as a first-evening practice for two.
How we'd shape three days
Day one: arrive, settle in, sunset beach yoga at 5pm. After dinner, stargazing by the firepit on the central deck runs daily from 6:30 to 7:00 pm.
Day two: chi kung on the yoga deck in the morning if it's Tuesday to Thursday, a massage or the Herbal Compress Ritual in the afternoon, the temazcal in the evening.
Day three: a sound healing session in the morning, a kayak along the coast (kayaks are complimentary, up to two hours), then nothing at all.
It's quiet here. That's the point. Wi-Fi works across the property, but most people stop checking it by day two.
Where you sleep, and what you eat
Your cottage is part of the retreat. The Private Cottage Suite has a plunge pool on its deck, a rooftop with a sun bed, and an Aztec fireplace for cool evenings. The Nest Master Ocean View Suite has a private indoor plunge pool.
Breakfast is a complimentary continental breakfast. The restaurant cooks farm-to-table with local, organic ingredients, and we cater for gluten-free and dairy-free diets if you tell us when you book. Dinner can come with a mezcal pairing if you'd like one.
Booking it
Everything above is booked through our concierge: concierge@nestbaja.com, or WhatsApp at +52 1 624 141 8729. We also put together wellness retreat packages.
