Desert meets sea. That's the short version of where we are: on the East Cape of Los Cabos, at Camino Cabo Este, with the Sea of Cortez in front of us and dry hills behind. If you're looking for a cottage retreat in Los Cabos rather than a tower with a lobby, this page is what our cottages actually are, what they have, and what a few quiet days here look like.
What our cottages are
We have two cottage types, and both are built around the same three things: a private rooftop, a plunge pool on the deck, and the sea in view.
| Private Cottage Suite | Private Cottage Two Bedroom | |
|---|---|---|
| Size | 24 sqm / 258 sqft | 36 sqm / 388 sqft |
| Beds | One king | One king, plus an adjoining room with a queen |
| Bathrooms | One, with walk-in shower | Two full bathrooms |
| Plunge pool | On a round wooden deck beneath the trees | On the main deck, facing the sea |
| Rooftop | Private, with sun bed | Private, with sun bed |
| Fireplace | Aztec fireplace | Aztec fireplace in the main bedroom |
| How many we have | Two | One |
The Private Cottage Suite is the one for two people. The plunge pool sits on a round wooden deck under the trees, so it's shaded and private. Up top there's a rooftop with a sun bed and nothing between you and the water. The bathroom has a hand-painted Talavera basin and a walk-in shower.
The Private Cottage Two Bedroom suits friends traveling together or a family with older teens. The king room has the Aztec fireplace; the queen room adjoins it, and each has its own full bathroom. The plunge pool here is on the main deck, facing the sea, with rustic lounge chairs beside it. The rooftop sits under a reed pergola.
We have only three cottages in total, so they go first in high season.
What's in every cottage
Every cottage has 24-hour air conditioning and a ceiling fan, free Wi-Fi, an in-room safe, USB ports, slippers, bathrobes and incense. Toiletries are biodegradable and water comes filtered in reusable glass bottles. Beach towels are in the room.
The fireplace isn't decoration. Desert nights get cool in winter, and that's when you'll light it.
Why the East Cape, and not town
We're on the East Cape because it's quiet. It's quiet here. That's the point. There's no strip, no beach clubs with speakers. You get the Sea of Cortez, the desert, and a short list of things worth doing.
Nine Palms is right down the road. It's about a ten-minute drive, a good right-hander for longboards and intermediates, and it's the reason a lot of our guests bring a board. La Fortuna is nearby too.
Cabo Pulmo National Park, a protected reef on this same coast, is further north. We can arrange snorkeling and diving trips there.
A few days in a cottage
Mornings start with the complimentary continental breakfast. After that, most people do some version of this:
- Kayaks: complimentary, for one or two people, up to two hours at a time, with paddle and life vest.
- Beach setup: we put out chairs, umbrellas and towels on the sand for you, subject to availability.
- The main pool: it looks straight out over the Sea of Cortez, if you want a change from your plunge pool.
- Yoga: vinyasa and chi kung run Tuesday to Thursday, and there's sunset beach yoga too.
Late afternoon is for the rooftop. Evenings are slower still. Guided stargazing with our telescope runs daily from 6:30 to 7:00 pm at the firepit on the central deck. Movie night is in the lobby on Tuesdays and Fridays at 7:00 pm.
Dinner tonight is farm-to-table, with a mezcal pairing if you'd like one. Our restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
The temazcal and the spa
We can set up a temazcal for you during your stay. It's a traditional Mesoamerican steam lodge on the property, and the guided ceremony runs an hour and a half with an herbal infusion and a facilitator ($11,500 MXN, for one guest or more). Our ZENICA Ancestral Spa does massage, herbal compress and stone rituals, sound healing and breathwork.
If you're planning a whole stay around that side of things, our wellness page goes into detail.
Who our cottages suit
We welcome guests aged 16 and older. We're small, and we keep it that way on purpose.
The cottages suit couples, solo travelers who want a rooftop to themselves, and small groups of friends in the two-bedroom. Pets are welcome with notice: up to two per room, up to 25 kg each, $90 USD per pet per stay.
We don't have accessible accommodations at this time, and there's no gym. If either matters to you, write to reservations@nestbaja.com before you book.
How we run things
We're a member of Design Hotels. We harvest rainwater, reuse greywater and generate solar power, and we've cut most single-use plastics. You'll notice it in small ways: glass bottles, cloth napkins, biodegradable toiletries.
Check-in is at 3:00 pm and check-out at 12:00 pm. From November through April we have a two-night minimum.
